My lock collection includes 4 Master locks: A #3, a #1, a #7, and a #140. The #7 is hanging on my storage unit because it's all I had with me when I discovered the pins in the old lock I had on it were seized up at the shear line. I haven't had a chance to replace it yet and thus haven't had a chance to pick it yet.
Here's where the confusion comes in. Of the other three Masters the #3 is by far the hardest to pick. I can rake the #1 in 2 seconds or less or SPP it in about 10. I can SPP the 140 in about 30 seconds. But the #3, which SHOULD be ridiculously easy from everything I've read, takes me about a minute and a half to SPP and I can't rake it at all, and that's with me knowing its binding order. Even the 140 with a couple spools is easier to pick than this thing with 4 standard pins. So here's my confusion: Why is this lock, which should be the lock picking equivalent of training wheels, so much more difficult than similar locks? Any ideas?
This is pure curiosity. I'm going to keep working on it till I can get my time on it down to where I finally feel it's become too easy. I'm just trying to figure out what makes it different. Also, for the record, I had a key for it, but I've lost it.
