How to make a custom card on CodeSource?

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

How to make a custom card on CodeSource?

Postby GWiens2001 » 15 Jun 2016 18:37

Been trying to make a custom card on HPC CodeSource, and when I think I have it done, the software will not let me print unless I choose a DSD number. When I choose a DSD number (any of them), it erases my inputted numbers and replaces it with whatever numbers are related to that DSD number.

Any suggestions? Can't find any tutorials on YouTube on how to make a custom card. And I really want to make a card for the Folger Adam Mogul cylinders.

Thanks,

Gordon

Truely no idea about the software
But id suggest finding out the last dsd
Card number and using the next highest
Assuming that the reason for the autofill is that you're
Using a number with a read only card and so
It autofills to match the read only data

The other option
Ask helpdesk
The software obviously allows custom data entry
So ask for the correct procedures

If you've found out please ignore the post

Thank you, C locked. I did along the lines of what you suggested, but want to be sure that I remember exactly how it was done. Then I'll post how it is done here for others.

I will say this... the Blitz is probably not the best choice for cutting Folger Adam Mogul keys. The card printed, but the angles of the indicator marks quickly move beyond what the machine is able to duplicate. I'll post a picture sometime. Guess that means I won't be cutting a LOB TUR1 key either, unless I can accurately move the key in the jaws.

I understand that it's not an "ideal" situation, but what if you translated your spacing to "tip spacing" and set your card up that way?

Yes, it's a bit of a pain, will require some quality time with the calipers and will not be as accurately repeatable as shoulder spacing, but it will take the large bow size out of the carriage travel/arc, allowing you to reach more of the blade where the cuts are.

In so far as the depth scale, I can't offer much more suggestion than trying different diameter cutting wheels in the HPC, but obviously you would have to play trial and error on the cut angles.

It's a lot of set up time, but once you get the measurements down, I feel you could get reasonable results.

I guess the only other alternative is to find someone with a computerized code machine and have them cut a set of D&S keys for you. Then you can just cut your keys on what're duplicator. Old school but still useful.

The distance the key needs to travel while being cut is what makes it not workable on the machine. Now I understand why they make/sell a key specifically for cutting Folger Adam keys. :)

If nothing else, I guess this adds to the security of the system. If keys are not easily generated on standard equipment, that can only help to prevent unauthorized key generation. Not an infallible approach, but every little bit helps I guess!
