A lock so bad it can't be picked?

Postby sisk » 24 Jun 2016 20:00

I've got this no-name lock I got from Dollar Tree for a buck. At that price I bought a couple of them because why not? Anyone, the first one almost wanted to pop open on it's own. I kid you not, I've got one of those transparent training padlocks that's harder to pick.

Then I started trying to pick the other one.

Short version I can't feel anything from it. No matter what I do it feels like I'm pushing my pick against soft rubber, It's not even that nothing binds, just that it feels like it's binding against something very soft and malleable. I can't get the thing picked, but the key works. Is it possible that this lock is just so bad and cheap that it can't be picked? Like maybe it has a plastic bible that's warped or something?

If the key works, then it can be picked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPk7RmvFfmM

It is soft and malable. Also, frequently they use pins that I refer to as 'melted' spool pins. They look like this:

When picking them, they have almost a greasy feel.

I've run across those pins before in another cheap Chinese lock. They don't quite feel like what I'm feeling with this thing.

And a bit of irony someone is sure to enjoy. I just (finally) picked this lock that I still think gave me trouble only because it's such a cheap piece of junk with a Goso pick that I never thought I use because it's a cheap piece of junk.
