ReStore Haul: Trash or Treasure?

Postby PipeSmoker » 24 Jun 2016 21:38

I made my first foray to ReStore today and came away with a decent haul - maybe. I got all of this, plus a little not pictured, for $6 plus tax.

The trouble may be that I'm not sure if what I got is good stuff I can work with or just trash (I was too excited at my "find" to think of that at the time  ). So, did I do well or learn a lesson, a cheap one thankfully?

I count seven locks to practice your skills on; and at an investment of less than $1 each. I would say you did well. Any lock is a good lock for practice--SPP, raking, etc. These look like two lock outs and a replacement I did this week

not bad, I swing by the restore once a month and pickup 4 or 5 cheap locks pick them a time or 2 make keys then pass them on to some of my friends that pick.
if there are locks without keys at the restore I will take these first and leave the ones with keys for people that need them.

Thanks for the replies. I'm starting to figure out how these work by tearing apart one.

I figured if I ruined it, and I didn't, I wasn't out much. Seeing the pins and how it all goes together really helped me. I took out 3 pins and left 2 and that was a breeze. I'm up to 4 pins now and doing okay or better. I'm not only SPP with the hook and half diamond but also raking really well! In the past I just couldn't "get" taking but I think I'm getting it now. :D

This makes me wish the nearest ReStore wasn't 200 miles away from me.

Nice haul. A couple of Kwiksets, and a few KIK (key in knob). The deadbolt is probably a KIK too, which is actually a good thing.

You can play with these, eventually memorize them and then turn the machinery on them to make some cutaways or challenge locks. Throw a security pinned, threaded monstrosity into a cheap cylinder housing and piss off your lock picking friends

I spent way more than I should have early on. I wish I had utilized resources better
