looking for different sized wiper inserts

Postby wiper 42 » 1 Jul 2016 18:49

Hi all

G'day from oz.........rosebud vic

I'm new to the forum and picking. open my first padlock (master) yesterday when i received my beginners kit in the post.

The lock seems pretty crappy but still got a thrill hearing the click when it opened.

i have seen about 5 auto shops and they are saving the old wiper blades for me.

The only thing is that most of them 99% are about 2mm wide with a few about 3.5mm wide.

Is there a trick (particular models of cars) that i should be looking for to get the wider strips???

Going to try the truck place soon.

Grateful for any tips. :)

You didn't say what you need them for. Picks? tension wrenchs? Since you say you just got a pick set. I'm going to assume it wrenches.

I've been trying to pay close attention to what brand the inserts I get come out of. The thickest I've found being rain x latitude @ .041 & 3.75 mm(great for making prybars) and the widest have come from rear wipers. I don't know the brands on them but all except a few had the small inserts.

Someone on here, I can't remember who exactly, said the the OEM blades have better inserts. I have found this to be true from the rear blades. I haven't gotten my hand any OEM front blades.

Basically, what it seems like to me is the higher quality blades the better your chances of getting something more useful.

Hope this helps.

Heres my tuppence worth after scrounging in the breakers yards getting wiper inserts.

The bigger the motor, the bigger the wiper, the bigger the wiper the stiffer and bigger the insert.
Big truck wipers, have bigger inserts than a nissan micra.

Grab em all. You will be surprised at the range of tension tools and picks you will be able to make, and find usefull in the course of time.
