What key does this lock use?

Hi there,
I've recently bought a new house and there is a wall safe but no key. Obviously I could call a locksmith, but that's no fun! First stage for me is to try and work out work type of key it would use. I've attached an image of the key hole- any ideas? it's about 1cm in length. Thanks in advance. Nicck

Could you post another pic zoomed out so we can see the entire safe door? The hinges and square or round corners often tell who the maker was, age, and typ of lock inside.
A ruler in the photo or a coin or common item for scale would be helpful as well.

Your keyhole has paint on the left of it, so it's actually wider than the current hole.

I fixed your pic as well, the [image] commands only work if your imgur link is to the exact picture not just to imgur's page where the pic is embedded. Right click the pic, click View Image and that will show you the http://i.imgur.com/picname.jpg path the [image] command needs to display the pic.

Also, please let us know where you are located, we have members in all the English speaking nations, and knowing where the safe is located may help ID the manufacturer.

Thanks. Here's a new picture (hopefully it works this time the way you suggested). It's embedded in to a wall, so not sure it helps.

Hmm beats me, so much paint on that thing. Probably 3 or 5 lever lock, you could find blanks and then use a method called impressioning to file a working key, but you'd need to clean all that paint off first.

Maybe someone else can offer more advice.

First things first, look down the keyhole with a torch to check if there is a lock fitted to the unit, even unlocked the door would not open without clearing the paint seal between the door and frame, so it may not even by locked, just painted shut, it obviously hasn't been opened/used for a while, so if there is a lock fitted, calling a safe engineer to open it would be wise, also warn them about the fact it is painted shut when you ask them to quote, or you might get a shock when they revise their quote when they are on site if they have not been warned about it.
