Picking my car door lock

Postby Shimi » 16 Nov 2004 3:10

First and foremost I would like to say that I will only use given info. to achieve said goal. Secondly, I really need to know because I don't have the funds or the means to get necessary funds for opening my car which contains my car/house keys, luckily I had a spare for the house otherwise I wouldn't be posting.
Today while running around applying for jobs I accidently locked my car keys in the car. I tried slim-jimming it for 6 hours to no aveil, and eventually had to give up.
I have a "piece of junk" 80's chevy cavalier with the modified door locks that you push back and forth horizontally. So the wire hanger for pulling is out. I have rudimentary materials to work with. If you guys could tell me how to get it open I'd be extremely greatful.
If not, I understand. Thanks.

Unfortunately starting with picking a car door lock is the equivalent of starting math by designing a bridge....

Car door locks can be very fragile and break unless you have a good idea of what you're doing. This is why many locksmiths 'slim jim' the door rather than try to pick the lock.

Furthermore, seeing as this is a very sensitive area with some rather complex information, automotive locks and ignition picking information is generally restricted to the advanced forums...

Picking the lock really wouldn't be the best approach. If it's an 80's vehicle the slim jim should've worked. If you don't mind the $30.00 you can buy an inflatable wedge which will spread the door a bit giving you room to catch the lock on the inside. Other than that, call a locksmith, or break the window.
Lock picking is an art, not a means of entry.

What have you done slim jim wise? Besides spend 6 hours, have you pulled on anything, or have seen/heard anything that would lead you to beleive you've disconnected something in the door. If so, a locksmith may be your cheapest option.

For $30 you might as well call a locksmith.

http://www.z-tool.com/Kits.htm I found that link in the main forums so it's a start anyway. You'll have to make your own tools but I think it's the best free advice you're going to get.
