Lockwood 270S70 core..

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Lockwood 270S70 core..

Postby Musical » 22 Jun 2016 22:05

Hi people, from Australia,
My first post here in the forums..

I just had a new Lockwood 270S70 delivered today and wasn't expecting the shutter setup on the keyway at all. Took me by surprise.

Has anyone had experience with this model at all?
Can anyone shed some idea on removing the core from one of these please ?

I've taken one screw out through the lock, but the plate and core isn't moving.
Perhaps a second screw on the other side of the base plate, accessible from under the shackle ?
And if so, is there a trick to removing that?

Any help would be great.
Cheers!

Pictures would help us help you.

Ok, here we go with a follow up..

I was successful in opening it when I got home from work last night finally.

I'll try putting some pics up..

and the base..

There was a second screw under the other side of the shackle, that's why it wouldn't move.
Also, there was a 2-piece / split nylon disk covering the keyway, like a weather-seal?

I just wanted that out for easier access with picks. It can go back in later.

All good to go..

Haven't dealt with this, but I would say yes there is another post under the left side of the shackle. There might be a set screw on the left side of the body holding the shackle in or you could try a 180 rotation of the shackle, or light upward pressure on the shackle while the key is turned in the cyclinder.

ok, another quick update on this lock.

The first post was on 23rd Jun about getting inside to the core which I finally figured out later that day.

I've been picking it up on most days and having a pick for 5mins or so, and giving up, moving onto simpler locks that I have opened previously.

Well this week I have been opening most 5 and 6pin padlocks and oval barrel locks I touch, it's like all the practice is making sense now.

Now this morning, 26th July, I sat down to my first coffee and picked up the lockwood for a play, and surprise!, I had it SPP'd open in under 5 minutes.

That's made my week! :D

I'll be taking it to work for another try during the afternoon..

Cheers !

Excellent!

Picking is a skill of feel, and until you develop the feel you will need more practice. One thing - it is a perishable skill. If you don't use it for a while, your skills will deteriorate.

Gordon is 100% correct. I've noticed a tremendous decline in my skill between when I was picking locks almost daily at work, to now where it's once or twice a month. Now I get frustrated SPPing a 5 or 6 pin standard cylinder and just go back to raking, whereas a couple years ago I would just breeze through it.

I joined this forum a few weeks ago and started back picking each night while relaxing watching tv in the evenings after work.
