Brand New Bogota

I have been practicing my hand filing a lot lately. This is the most recent bogota. I am starting to love the hand filing process even though it takes a little longer. I bought a brand new set on needle files that were awesome during this bogota build.

Nice Work .. There is something about making your own tools.. I still have some picks I made .. They are one of the first pick out the pouch when I attack some pins ..

Ok, I have a dumb question: what is the purpose of the scallops on the opposite side of the pick? I know everyone makes them that way, but why?

They aren't necessary, but that's how the originals were made, from piano wire. It just looks more streamlined too.

There's a reason for everything!
If you have a flat bottom, the lowest part of the valley above it concentrates the stress there and it will crack soon.
In short, Raimundo, inventor of the bogota, said that the pick shape aims at a uniform force distribution.

Not too long ago I made one without taking any metal from the bottom side, because I wanted to see if I was wasting time by doing that. It didn't seem weak, but for some reason it was really hard to open a lock with it. Not sure if that was because of the lack of flex or what but it did not glide through the lock like this one does.
