Master Lock No. 3

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Master Lock No. 3

Postby pingman326 » 6 Aug 2016 5:21

Hi, I'm very new to lockpicking and like a lot of you guys I started with a Master lock No. 3. The one I bought happens to be very difficult to SPP. It seems like I need a small, skinny hook pick that can manipulate around pins without hitting them. Can anyone make a recommendation for a pick that would work for this?

Thanks,
Steve

I don't think I have come across a master lock #3 that I could not spp with a standard hook. Depending on if the lock is new or old or whatever, the biggest variation I have seen with the ML #3s I have picked is the amount of tension needed during picking. With brand new MLs I usually use VERY light tension, basically just rest my finger on my tension wrench.

Hope that helps,

Ian

I have run across some Masters with extreme bitting and found the Sparrows steep hook to work great for most cases,
and other lock brands as well,as long as there is room for the pick to enter.
But you can make a suitable steep hook from a postal hook (most major brands) pick by filing them down a little.
