Can Master Padlock be mended ?

Postby Sidney101 » 11 Aug 2016 2:10

Hello - newbie here !

We've got a master padlock where the shackle has come out of the body completely. Can this be mended ? Its part of a matching key set so quite keen to fix it rather than buy new

Thanks in advance

Sid

When I was but a young pup, my Dad got a deal on a bunch of master padlocks, because the shackles had not yet been installed.
These were the laminated style padlocks and all that needed to be done was to make sure the spring was in place on one side,
to push the shackle up, when unlocked. The shackle retainer was actually one of the laminated steel plates on the same side as
the spring, and he just placed the shackle into the lock, and gave the laminations on one side a whack with a hammer, and that
kept the shackle held in.

Those are the line that they make for the big box stores. They aren't the same quality as you have found out. No repairs.
Master makes a "Key Up" version of some of their locks. Go to a locksmith and see if they have one that is the size you need.

If you have the key number you can order a matching lock directly from Master Lock IIRC

You won't be able to find that exact master, it is made for the big box stores but you should be able to order something close directly from master. It will take a good while to arrive though.
