Advice on TSA lock?

Postby nicros » 15 Aug 2016 21:20

Hi,

We just returned from a trip abroad, and have a problem with one of our Delsey suitcases. It's a Vavin Securite (http://www.luggagedirect.com.au/delsey-vavin-securite-77cm-hardside-large-4-wheel-suitcase-argent-silver.html) case... no zipper.

One of the latches opens just fine, but spinning the wheels on the combo lock doesn't lock it. On the other latch, it won't open at all, even with the password we set it to which had worked just fine before.

Any tips on how to get this particular model latch open? Or is it a trip to the locksmith?

Thanks!

Does the lock (which I see has the TravelSentry logo on it) have a three digit number next to it? It would be something like 004, 007, etc.

This would give us a better idea of how to direct you.

Did a little Googling, and found it's a 007. Believe this is a simple wafer lock. You can search the Forum for "wafer lock picking" and give it a go with some paper clips ( these locks are sloppy enough tolerance that you have a decent chance of success).

Alternately, brute force the combo. Start at 000, and presuming the lock itself isn't broken, you'll hit the correct combo before too long with a 3-wheel lock.

Thanks! I used a paperclip and a hairpin and actually got it open after a couple minutes.

Cheers for the suggestions.
