Best Lock - Poss B Keyway

Postby mseifert » 16 Aug 2016 23:25

I recently acquired a couple Best Locks.. They had no keys so my goal is to pick to control .. and get keys .. but since this is my first experience with SFIC I would like a second opinion on the keyway .. I believe it to be a B Keyway.. Please confirm or deny .. I have looked at so many pictures and read so many articles I feel like they are all blurring together..

hard to tell from that angle. It's either A or B.
If you can get a BE2 blank from the hardware store, that is A keyway.

Thanks JeffMoss.. .Now that I look at it ... and have slept.. It does look like an A .. The first shift to the Right (From the Top) is not as steep and long as the B looks.. I may have to go down to the local shop and try out a couple of keys..

One other quick question.. are all of the iCore Tension Wrench identical except for the thickness of the material.. i.e. Tooth spacing, Tooth depth, etc ..

Here's a look at the Petersons.

Two have the same teeth, but are bent at a different angle.

The third one is thinner.

I have the 2 thinnest I-Core wrenches from Peterson .. Even with them it took me awhile to pick them to control.. Didn't end up using the wrench that was described for the A Keyway .. I used the next one up and had to use a shim alongside it..

I want to try it again .. But I also want to get keys.. So I think I will wait before I reinsert the core

I don't think most of us consider them easy. :)

I was more referring to most people say it is easier with the iCore wrenches..It still took me a lot of attempts and I was quite surprised when it did open to control

The Peterson iCore tensioners are very hit and miss. I have all three of them and it is tough to get them seated properly, using a shim to hold them in place against the control sleeve seems to be a necessity.

Using a shim was how I finally got it picked to control
