WTF is the LT 330 Wrench??

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

WTF is the LT 330 Wrench??

Postby McLinda » 12 Dec 2014 13:17

I bought a wrench online, two actually but judging by the double-sided Y's delivery estimate it's being shipped through NASA from Jupiter. I did get the LT330 quick but it may as well be from Mars cause it's not what I expected and I can't figure out WTF it's designed for.

Please tell me it's not a friggin gas cap wrench. I don't know what the one I want is called... like, an L-shaped wrench only its flat so I can put it below the lock rather than out to the side.

That pic is from Amazon.. and it does look like an automotive wrench which is meant to keep dust caps open. I think the full part number is LTI 330

Why not order from the usual locksport friendly suppliers such as the forum sponsor http://lockpickshop.com or the handful of other ones? Plus you can always ask questions here and show us links to stuff you're about to buy and we can see if it is the right thing for what you're working on.

I think you were hoping to order one similar to the Peterson pry bar, they can be found and ordered here: http://www.thinkpeterson.com/tensiontools.html

You're right, that is from Amazon. I will check out the links to the stores y'all suggest because I don't know what the wrench I want is called. But yes, it would be for automotive locks. I will use the one I got from Amazon to apply eye lashes though, as that's all it could possibly be good for.

I'm no expert in automotive, so someone else will have to recommend a good wrench and I'm not sure still what you had in mind, but here is a page to poke around and look at some options: http://www.lockpicks.com/all-products/l ... tools.html

and there's this

and that:

best of luck,

Tools like that are useful for two scenarios, dustcovers/shutters and double-sided locks (wafers or pin-tumbler).
With a lock that has a dustcover or shutter they help keep the cover open and allow you to work your picks more easily.
With a double-sided lock it allows you to work your pick in the center so that you can reach the pins or wafers on both sides without having to change tension tools.

Southord used to have a double sided wishbone tension wrench that I really liked for the double sided wafers. I lost it and when I went to order a replacement I was told it was discontinued. Have been looking for a comparable replacement since.

Please let us know when you find one. I have one that had been sold by LPS as "Tension Tool - Double Wishbone", frankly, it is not that great. It is useful for wafers which are too narrow (or otherwise unsuitable for my Petersion Wafer-Jigglers) but even then it takes too much effort to keep it seated.

I bought https://www.lockpickshop.com/AUTO-TENS-WRENCH.html and its huge and heavy. Worked nicely on my sentry safe. I have smaller wishbone and double ball that I removed from a Majestic set someone gave me and put in the level 2 pickset. It may have to go in the EDC though with all the wafer locks I encounter that need a little on both sides.

Anyone try the one Brockhage is selling?

It sounds like you were trying to get a tool similar to the Peterson pry bar. Sparrows has that set of them too. What a bummer though, getting that one instead of what you wanted.
