Is Lockone change combo sequence same as S&G?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Is Lockone change combo sequence same as S&G?

Postby 2little2l8 » 5 Sep 2016 7:59

Please help if possible. I have been reading this sub-forum a few days.

The Amsec unit has a generic type 2 lock. The customer service rep told me it takes the standard S&G change key. I have purchased the S&G U8 and have changed C stars in the past (different key of course) for our church social club without a problem. So I am aware of using the change key mark inserting key and spinning new number.

The question I have is right before I turn the key to removal. The S&G 6730 instructions state to move wheel 10 to the right after last number is set before Turing key and removing. Several Youtube videos just show last number being set and key being turned. So my research has confused me.

Should it be turned ten units right after last number is set? Is turning just a safeguard so nothing spins as key is removed? Should it be just turned at last number?

Sorry if this should be in another forum. Part of me says leave well enough alone and keep existing combo. The other part tells me change it as the original instructions with numbers is somewhere on the property and I would like to be proactive.

Thank you

Have a Safe Day!

This is the correct forum for the question.

I always turn the dial a little after entering the last number while changing the combination. This is so the drive cam/dial do not shift slightly and change the last number.

At least that is my experience, though I am not a safe tech.

Thank you Gordon, I have read many posts with your response so thank you for taking the time to respond to mine. So moving the dial is a precaution to prevent shifting. Like I said the instructions specify doing that. The videos don't. I posted here for a " in the know" response.

When I first saw this site I was shocked as I thought it would be a dark site. This community has been very helpful in researching locks and answering homeowner questions. Thank you and the LPF101 community for helping out eagerly and professionally.

Thanks

I normally turn the dial a few numbers before locking in the combination. With the drive still in contact with the third wheel, there is a slight chance of a shift in the last number on locking to remove the change key. Never had it happen; and have changed combinations without turning a few numbers after last entry with no problems. You will discover any shifts when you test the new combination by dialing it a few times with the door open; never omit this step

I may be just getting lucking .. And I have only changed the combo on my practice lock .. but I dont move the dial after changing the combo .. Seems like it is not required but could be a good idea.
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

I've never moved the dial, and never had any issues. In fact, I never knew the instructions said that. Maybe I should read them sometime!!
