I'm still working on a simple kwikset with 3 pins. Soon gonna move to 4

Hi from Australia again..

I always start the day with a coffee and a pick now.
This morning was my three Abus 72/40's, spp'd, all 6-pin, and all keyed different.
3X each before my next coffee.
and twice more each this evening after dinner..

Then a quick pick on the old Masterlock #5, just because its been a couple of days
since the last time.



I never thought I'd pick an Abus 72/40 in my life, but it just all happened one night.
Now, generally under a minute each lock, and a friends 72/40 at work too, is the same.

My first Abus, an 83al/45, now that thing refuses to be spp'd. Zero feedback
I even tried just 3 pins, 4 pins.. Nothing LOL. Frustrating.

That's a great practice routine! I like the colors, do you find them to be difficult in order of green, yellow, and red ? =)

Thanks Squelchtone, I never thought of the colors like that, and now you mention it..

Yellow was the first I got, and I'd rate it in the middle somewhere to pick of the three.
Green was the easiest to open (either I was getting used to them by then)
and Red is usually a little more difficult than the other two.

All of them have moments where you have to reset and start again.
I think perhaps I'm slowly wearing them out! (a good excuse to buy some more locks)

Nice pick on the 72/40, the first time I got mine open it was magic! They have a very distinct feel, lots of good security pins. What thickness picks did you use? I think I used a .015 from memory (its back in this thread somewhere). Youve convinced me that I should go back to it tonight, and see if I can pop it again.. Ive been stuck in a rut on my latest Twin 6000 for a month now.. Tops pins in that have me bummed ;/ You win Gordon

Yes the pick I've had most success with on the 72/40's is a 'Southord Slimline hook (MSL-09) with the metal handles' from the C2010 kit.

I just ordered 2 more replacement picks yesterday from Southord, because I think I'm wearing that one out.
It's definitely losing some of its bend, but it's a favourite for those locks.

Good Luck with that Twin, and I expect to see a post in the near future about it.

The Twin that ADI is working on also has a fairly difficult bitting, IIRC. And some decent pins. When he gets it open, he'll have good reason to be proud of himself.

I see everyone else having fun with the medecos.

So I just wanted to share my morning achievement. 5 pin medeco classic. This is significantly harder than the BiAxial i have .The pins on this thing don't rotate easy and it's definitely seen better days. I have 2 of the pinned the same. (I think.)I haven't picked on it a lot but this morning I got a pretty good method for rotation and then BOOM open. Clockwise

It's no Medeco (congrats, BTW!), but finally SPP'd this older Kryptonite I had around the house for years. Neither of my tubular picks fit it, nor did the Sparrows Mantis, but finally found a method of tensioning.

My Postman left a surprise today, some new SS Dev hooks (with dipped handles) I ordered the other week.
No sooner had I checked them out, it was time to put one to work and..

Bingo !

Opened my old Masterlock Trigger guard (4pin) twice in 2 minutes. This thing can give me a hard time most of the time.

That started my day well, so time for the morning pick today, and got this lot in no time.



The trigger guard, Masterlock #5, Lockwood Assa Abloy 356S63 (6pin) and Lockwood Assa Abloy 270S70 (6pin).

I had one of "those days" last night. It took me almost 30 minutes to SPP a standard 5 pin Schlage KIK!!! Felt like a bonehead. Changed tension tools, went TOK, changed books, etc. I ended up switching over to a couple Master padlocks and a Kwikset just so I didn't go to bed feeling like I needed to give up lock picking all together and take up belly button lint picking instead.

I hate those nights!!!

Maybe that was my problem. I did enjoy some Whistlepig bourbon I picked up on my trip to CA a couple weeks ago. Perhaps I didn't drink enough to get loosened up!! I should have had two glasses!!

Picked this Corbin master ring cylinder to the MR sleeve shearline today. Out of the dozen or so mortises I've picked, this is the only time I've ever hit Master (hit it on a padlock one other time).

Unfortunately, I picked this for disassembly and rekeying, and these can't be torn down unless picked to plug shearline. Time to drink some bourbon and get back to it!
