Assa Twin 6000 KiK lock

This is the Assa Twin 6000. The original in Assa's line of side pins locks. As you see this lock is unusual in that all the side pins are the exact same and its the side bar and the key biting that actually form the sidebar coding. The successors to the Twin 6000 are different in that they changed to finger pins instead of side pins and some have vertical serrations instead of horizontal. This is a great lock to learn how to pick side pins on as it requires a great amount of control on the tension. You can see in the pic that the driver pins are the old style Assa pins.

Know what I like best about these locks? When you pull them apart, being careful to hold the side bar so you don't lose it. Then you take the key out of the plug, and SURPRISE, you didn't think about the finger pins.
So you have the side bar, but the finger pins shot everywhere. Sadly, I've done that more than once.

and you may find all the finger pins, but all the springs? Not likely.

Ruko padlocks use pretty much a kik cylinder. Just pinned one for a guy in hong kong. He bought it as subassembly. Only had finger pins and springs in it. I was able to get a side bar and matching key. Just had to cut the key and put it together. Used the new style drivers. I have some oval ASSA SCD's that have a side bar and several working keys. They are a dog to pick open.
