Automotive training course fee

Hi!

I'm arranging a course for automotive lock picking in Finland for Autoliitto. Same kind of organisation as ADAC and AAA. I have done automotive lockouts for 21 years.

I'm only wondering how much should I charge for a person? 8 people have signed up. Mainly teaching locks that they want to learn and some theory. Weekend course Friday to Sunday.

I haven't taken an Automotive lockout class,but I would say do some web searching and see what other people/company are charging for a comparable course/class..

Other classes I have taken will run 200-300 per day of the class

Are you teaching picking or unlocking.. most of the time you don't pick them you just reach in and unlock

Picking the lock. Many cars have deadlock here in Finland. Example BMW, VAG, Volvo that won't open with othewise.

They aren't really "locks" per se that you can see. They are part of the locking system. If you use a long reach tool to unlock the door or pull on the handle, the door won't open because of this feature. They make getting in a pain. Some people say if you time it right you can hit the unlock button and pull on the door at the same time it will open. I've never been able to do it, and have never actually witnessed somebody do it.

I never had all the nice Lishi tools, so most of us that don't have them give the, "sorry, tow it to the dealer" response.

BMW locks have always been interesting. Indeed the "deadlock" is an extra system. The lock itself is normal.

I have had few cases where people are trapped in the car. Once three passengers went inside the car and the driver put her luggage in the trunk and also the keys. Trunk closed and immediately the car locked it self. They waited for me to arrive and pick the lock

If there is power windows and no key inside you can't open the doors from inside. Some people have died in their car for that reason. One that I know a Volvo went powerless, doors locked and caught in fire.

About the fee. It feels terrible to take example 500 per person...of course i like to take money after all it is an extra reward for my own studies I can open any car without damage and never been taught how to.

Your time and experience is worth money. This is something like 6 to 8 hours of class each day x 3 days? It think that would be worth 500 euro to learn how to open cars since they will start a business and make their money back. Do you have to pay for the conference space or hotel conference room? are you buying coffee and lunch for everyone at the meeting? These are all things that will take away from the money you make. Do the students pay hotel and for their own breakfast/lunch/dinner? Are you hosting any drinks at the bar in the evening so they can network and talk with other professionals to make friends?

For their fee, do the students get any t-shirt, car opening tools?, any books or printed manuals to take home and read? membership to a professional group or forum that helps them get business or new customers?

If this is your first class ever, perhaps it might be better to charge less? maybe 300 so it is 100 per day? but at that price, I would not expect free food or coffee or any alcohol in the evening at the hotel bar..

oh if these people are getting a place to sleep for the 500 each, that is more than fair. In America, a reasonable price for a nightly hotel where you will not be murdered is about $100-$125 per night, anything lower is assumed to be dangerous or very out of the way. I have seen $45 per night but the neighbors are rough, and your car may be broken into by morning, and you may hear prostitutes and drug dealers fighting next room over.

will you have real car doors or cars or car locks mounted to a work bench vise to practice on or just classroom theory and slideshow presentation and a laptop with projector?

These people are tow truck business owners and workers. They know how to open with reaching-tools and some easier "deadlocks" but through-out Finland they ask advice for the difficult ones daily.

Got myself a little bit more reputation through these guys because the head of security services gave my name to the yellow press. They made an article of me as the best burglar in Finland a little bit provocative headline

I bought a dozen used car locks and mounted them in a wall. So hand on experience. The cheap hotels sound very tempting there
