pencil & paper - helps to have some help

Want to learn how master keyed systems work? not sure what a Grand Master or a change key are? Want to share a new MK system you came up with? How do different manufacturers pin up their locks? It's 10pm, do you know where your wafers are?

pencil & paper - helps to have some help

Postby kd7mlg » 26 Sep 2016 19:18

So I banged this out over the course of an hour or so, to help me validate some pencil-and-paper progressions I've been doing to sharpen my skill. I'd appreciate some peer review from anyone interested in looking.

The macros are not locked, so you can verify I'm not doing something sneaky in the background before you enable macros.

It really only works for 5 pin systems at the moment, but I have a lot of enhancements that I plan to do to flesh it out (including identifying incidental masters, etc. -- no masters, except TMK are presently displayed)

Excel MK Page Generator.zip

(This is an Access 2010 .xlsx file. I'm not experienced with OpenOffice or LibreOffice but would be willing to convert it if desired)

Thanks for feedback.

Limitations:
Currently only progresses one page of a 5-pin system. Schlage was used as defaults because... reasons... You can adjust min bit, max bit, MACS, parity, SOP, etc. Fields left blank are generated randomly or used Schlage defaults. Setting MFG name doesn't do anything at the moment.

Disclaimer of liability: this program is not necessarily suitable for any particular use and I explicitly disclaim any liability for results arising from your use. Mainly hacking in VBA (which I despise) and trying to get something user friendly in Excel.

I don't know if you'll find too many people here who will download any file, let alone a zip file, from an unknown source.

If you'd like us to look at something, you should just include it in your post.

Didn't even think about that.

Thanks for the boot to the head.

Here's the VBA as a text file.

It's not the prettiest, but it seems mostly functional (as advertised). If I were a software developer for a living I'd call it solid 'Alpha' quality.

Run the setup macro (which puts field labels and cleans up the page), then run the 'runkba' macro. (The .xlsm versionis also there.)

I guess I'm spoiled by doing all my downloads in a VM.

I downloaded it, but my free trial of Winzip expired... I'm off to try 7-Zip.
