Keying a Medeco

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

The intent of the post has changed a little from the beginning .. It has changed to more of acquiring an some knowledge about how Medeco Key Blank Distribution works..

I had forgotten that the 4 locks were keyed alike and there where 3 matching keys.. So, I was entertaining ideas about either changing the bitting (Which I now know would be difficult) or a 1 for 1 trade for someone else with a differently keyed Lock ..
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

What I used to do was find a medeco blank that was close, and put it into the milling machine & cut my own millings
of course I would only do it after the patent expired :P

I highly doubt the owner of that key will sell blanks, but you never know till you call

That is one of the DBK keyways - since it is coined with the dealer's information. They are out of patent but the blanks are not available on the aftermarket.
If you wanted it rekeyed, you would need to find a locksmith with the same keyway who would set you up with a key on their system, you would fill out a signature card, etc.
Now if you want to trade for a cylinder in a different keyway - that would be a lot easier, lol

I love the way you framed that picture on top, looks sexy like a playboy center fold, using itself to hide some of the naughtier bits.
