Hello all! What I'm wondering is whether the control key is specific to a closed system or if they're universal. I'm assuming the latter for obvious security reasons, but I'm hoping the former. The reason for that being I've come to be in possession of a BEST sfic (unsure which keyway) that is installed in a door handle (door not included). It was given to me by a friend and is beyond my skill to pick right now, but I am hoping I can find a way to remove, decode, and reinstall so that I can actually make use of it beyond just picking practice. Thanks all, and happy picking! -Phaker P.S. If the answer is what I'm hoping it is please PM me. I understand that it could be utilized surreptitiously and I want to minimize that possibility. If I wanted to trick you into giving me information I'd use illegally, I wouldn't do it under the name 'Phaker'

I actually had a Best-type core a week ago installed in some custom made hardware and the builder had lost the keys, including the core key (of course). I brought the control tension wrench I had made over 20 years before to win a bet with my Dad and I was able to pick the core to control in a few seconds- it was amazing. I slid in the newly pinned core I had made up the day prior and I was done in like two minutes, it was great

Get a hold of this guy, he can pick it for you and send it back with a control and change key for a very reasonable price. http://www.ebay.com/usr/papa777?_trksid=p2047675.l2559Wayne

Interchangeable cores ... GACK.
I spent about four hours yesterday with the Corbin Russwin Cylinder Manual teaching myself how to pin/master key the CR LFIC. A couple hours into it, it dawned on me that all I had to do was master key the plug, then just follow the instructions to build up to the control shear line. I had taken the core apart so I could see each step. When I finally got it working perfectly, I reassembled it and went to put the core back in the handle. To my surprise (and frustration) I discovered that it matters what side the control lug is on. Wrong side and the core won't stay in the door because you can't extend the lug all the way. I hadn't even given it any thought, and I built it with the lug on the wrong side.
Sigh ....

I've bought a number of cores from him, and I've been very satisfied - he is fast and all of the cores/keys I've gotten from him work perfectly. You may want to get in touch with him directly in order to get his price list for services. I should note that he has PKS WB and WC stuff too. --Ted

I have bought blanks from him, too. Highly recommended.
