How are this keys/locks called?

Postby RookieLP » 26 Oct 2016 18:25

Hello all, first time here and hopefully not the last.

Forgive me if this question is too noob but I have just discover lockpicking and english is not my native language so I lack the technical vocabulary necessary to get the most of my google-fu skills. Maybe this have been asked and answered before in this forum but, again, I dont know how to start searching for this.

I've stumble upon the following keys/locks which I'm not able to identify. So, how are they called? How do they work? (Any video or computer animation showing the internals?) How to lockpick them?

1. This one seems like a mix of internal cut and dimple.

2. This one is similar to an internal cut but with multiple thin grooves insted of one wide groove. Resembles a digital circuit.

3.Similar to the previous one

Thank you very much!

Well the first lock is a dimple lock. The groove is sometimes called a laser track, and is there to move the sliders or finger pins into the right position.

The others seem to just be sliders.

To pick them you generally move them around until it feels picked. Not really sure how to explain that better. I haven't picked any myself but I imagine it's not that different than picking dimple locks or normal pin tumblers, except these are sideways.

Bosnianbill has a couple videos picking locks like this, like "(417) Meggo Euro 10 Pins + 5 Sliders Picked Open"

Edit: Here is a thread describing the locks better:

RookieLP,
Just out of curiosity, where did you find those particular practice locks?

You should start with pin tumbler locks first and work your way up.
