Your favorite cordless screwdriver?

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Your favorite cordless screwdriver?

Postby shutterstuff » 6 Nov 2016 15:00

A friend of mine picked up a Cobalt screwdriver at Lowe's for like $50. Had so much torque it stripped 3 screws when I borrowed it. I have a ~$10 Black and Decker that works pretty well but is slow.

Of course I have the big bulky drill/drivers, but I'm looking for a smaller one for those jobs that have dozens of locks.

So, what is your favorite small cordless screwdriver?

I'm a big Milwaukee fan. I use the Milwaukee M12 Cordless Driver with the extended battery, and a long bit. It has a variable clutch to help avoid those stripped screws. The battery lasts a long time, and it has a battery charge meter of sorts (1 to 4 lights). Although I'd never personally do this, I had a friend who had a friend who knew a guy, who might have even used the larger battery to tap things into place, or jar things loose.

I've always just used the drill style impact driver. I use Ridgid tools.

Same here.

I have also used DeWalt and Hilti. Hilti is nice but I dropped them after Home Depot did - I wasn't going out of my way for drill batteries or accessories.

I like the Dewalt DW 920K, it is fairly long but I tuck it under me arm, when not using it, it's also makes a nice club for one hit

This is the set of Milwaukee drills I have:

https://smile.amazon.com/Milwaukee-2691-22-18-Volt-Compact-Impact/dp/B001F7BIMG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1478483254&sr=8-3&keywords=milwaukee+m18+cordless+tools

The driver has no clutch so I never use it for lighter stuff. The drill is a bit heavy for working on door knobs for very long.
