Hi folks,
To start, I was a locksmith for 20 years, I haven't been in the trade for about 12 years now. I still work with locks now and again to help friends, key changes, auto lockouts etc.
I was recently asked to come look at a safe by a friend who moved an old house. There is an in-a-floor safe that looks to be about 30 years old. It has a safe deposit key lock only. I looked through your forum and found a topic with a floor safe that looks like the one I'm working on. I used a 6310D steel key and made a key for it ( I'm quite rusty so it took a few hours ) I can turn the key and feel ( or think I feel ) the lock bolt retract, but it will go no further. It turns a quarter turn then stops. I'm thinking I used the wrong key blank. What I need is info on what the lock looks like internally and how it works to retract the locking bolts. I can't find in a floor safe info or the company at all.
I will send photos of the safe and key asap
