"The Dick" Safe and Cabinet Co. HELP!!

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Well... 12x12x12 is 1728 total combinations, that sounds like a fun weekend of dialing test combinations. The correct dialing order and last number position are important, let me look into what lock that is. I think it might be an Eagle lock.

Forgive me for resurrecting an old thread, especially one with some many dick pictures in it...

But I have absolutely 0 experience with anything this old and I'm just curious... Does that thing even have a standard cam and nose? In my mind I'm just imagining nothing but 3 wheels and a fence riding directly on them. I dunno, maybe it's just me being naive but I'm just imagining a monkey being able to manipulate that thing open.. LOL

Look up "direct entry" safe locks. You have the dial, which is connected to the spindle, which inside the lock is connected to the driver wheel, which will have a pin, screw, or other protrustion on it that when the dial is turned, which in turn makes the driver wheel turn, will then transfer that motion by picking up a combination wheel, which if you keep turning the dial then picks up another combination wheel etc. each combination wheel, including the driver wheel will have a gate in the shape of a deep rectangle, once you dial the combination, depending on the make and age of the sage, you may have to dial the driver to a particular number which then allows the bolt work to be directly pushed into the gates of all of the wheels.

This pic shows the silver part that enters the wheel gates once they are all aligned in that direction via dialing the combination, the big beige wheel is the handle that you retract the bolts with. Notice the false gates all around the driver wheel, very common to thwart casual manipulation.

Got it... So slightly higher security than what I envisioned (due to false gates) but pretty much spot on otherwise... And skirting around so as not to discuss anything it's not acceptable to discuss, this really should be child's play to manipulate no? I mean just an indicator on the handle as an "aid" and just constantly finding the lowest point right?

Its not as easy as you're imagining it to be. Youre not gonna open such a safe in 5 minutes unless you're a trained safe tech with lots of experience. Casual hobbyists have been known to open that sort of mechanism but not in 5 mins.

Hi everyone...i Know nothing about lock-picking, or safes in general, so please excuse my ignorance. I have this same safe, the black dick, not the woody dick...anyways i want to turn it into a storage cabinet for my camera equipment...as of now there has been no issues with the safe locking, or having to deal with the lock(i'm not sure if it's the same 12 number lock, i can look tomorrow)...i just twist the knobs to open, and it works fine. because of this i assumed that it wasn't an actual safe, and more of a decorative thing...so i didn't even think the lock actually did anything...can anyone confirm if the lock actually works? and if so, how do i make sure that i don't lock all my camera stuff away to never be used again.

thanks, Andre
