What brand and widthnes of lock pick set for Norwegian locks

Postby lepidas » 6 Dec 2016 6:45

Hello, I have decided to practice in lock picking and make it a profession if possible, a lot of people, here I live in Norway, have problem with their locks, either they lost the key or the key is broken inside the lock.
So Iam considering to get some stuff and get practicing. The problem is that I don't know where to start exactly as a matter of what brand should I choose to buy and what widthness, this because I read that locks in EU are thiner (I'm not sure if this is a fact for norwegian locks).
I would be happy to hear some words about the things I have in mind.
Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum. Norwegian locks keyways sometimes are not as thin as other European ones. But he locks are quite difficult to pick, have usually 6 or even 7 pins and sometimes there's a sidebar operated via side pins, and this complicates everything.
Anyway, you can start practicing with "euro" picks that are a little thinner than US ones. They should work fine in Norwegian locks.

Good luck :)

Try running a search for lockpick sets, lockpick brands, or just browsing the lockpicks section. There are tons of reviews here.
Most of the manufacturers have "European" lockpicks that are thinner width for tighter keyways, .015" (0.381mm), .012" (0.3048) is typical.

As far as brands go I would recommend checking out the reviews that are already up on the forum. Loads of information waiting to be had.

Norwegian locks, I have no idea. What brands do you typically deal with? With that info I am certain someone here who has experience with those brands could recommend the most advantageous width of picks.
