Nice find Silverado.

I went to some Christmas markets in villages near our Garda lake and found another old money box. It's a bit rusted but for 10 euro one can't complain. Two nice things about this one: one of the keys I made for my others opened it at first try; There were some old coins in it. The coins are old Italian LIRE from 1954, 1955 and 1957 so I guess that was the period this still bank was used.
There were a dozen used matches inside the box. Maybe a kid got bored and tried to burn it, or maybe they wanted to see what was inside it. Who knows?
Anyway, enjoy the pictures.

I cleaned it with some "polish" (car wax sort of) and put it on display on the shelf.

Cheers :)

A client came into the shop today, with two old banks. They were dated 1921 and both looked like old books. I made a key from a steel blank,
they were very simple locks and both used the same key. They are gonna become x-mas presents for some lucky kid

Silverado, it's the first time I find something inside those still banks. One was clearly forced open to remove its content before it was sold to us.
I think these coins worth more or less one euro each. If someone is interested I could ask a lot more than one euro, but we'll keep these in the bank we found them.

Nice one, ratlock, it's in very good condition. It's difficult to find such a well preserved one 8)

I saw the ones that look like a book, bill. Those are lucky kids. I hope they appreciate the present your customer is going to give them.

Cheers :)

I was browsing one of the websites that sometimes has money boxes for sale, that was mentioned on another forum. I couldn't resist buying a couple more money boxes: TRUSTEE SAVINGS and LLOYDS.

Cheers :)

I got to know an old collector and was able to purchase some old and rusted money boxes. Most are missing the lock because they were pried open :( It's a shame to ruin these beautiful boxes just to get the few coins they usually contain. I picked open with two L bent wires the only one that was locked with something inside. I got a few old coins, estimated value less than one euro.

I need to clean these money boxes and then I'll let my girlfriend choose which ones she wants to keep. The others, most likely doubles or most rusted, will be available for trade.

The old collector also had some padlocks he no longer needed, and I'm the one that will choose which ones to keep

I hope to update this thread in the next two or three weeks.

Cheers :)

Hi munsterlander3,

welcome to the forum. I'm sure many of us would like to see your still banks.180 is quite a big collection. Do you have a room dedicated to them? How do you organize them? Are those exposed or stored in boxes? Do you have keys for them? Feel free to make a thread about them.

Cheers :)

Agree that I'd love to see your collection! Have a couple of them, but the best one that I've been around was one that was brought to me to have a key made. It had eight levers!

Hi all,
Are these also “still banks”? If not you can remove this reply 8)
But I have these at home. Made the key myself because normal only the bank had the key. Not the client. So you can buy them here but always without a key.

Hi femurat
Apologies for the delay in replying but i had to change my user name and e-mail account to get back onto website. My money boxes are stored up in the loft of my house. Mostly housed in display cabinets. I have some keys that were supplied with a few when purchased . I also have a collection of over 100 of the book style money boxes as well . They are displayed in a bookcase once again in the loft. I will get some pictures of some of the collection over the next week and put them on here for others to see, also some of the keys as well. My collection started when i came across my late fathers money box and has snowballed from there.
