What did you pick today?

I feel like I got ahead of myself with the last post...
After deciding to go ahead and try picking the Best again, with a different pick, I picked it to control.
I started working on it and in no time, I got rotation and then it stopped so I laughed a bit and dropped the core out. That wasn't hard but I doubt I could make it happen again.
And now I don't know what to do with it...lol. I don't have the tool to take the pins out and decode it.

Been a week since ive had the time to pick and i picked on some old locks last night. Took a few minutes but i was able to get into them. One i used to need two picks to do i was able to work it with just the petersen gem. The little "easier" abus still escapes me. I get a little feedback then it either binds all up or everything is springy. Havent got the right tension i think. Itll be my crowning achievement when i get it right. What a great hobby.

I usually go through this routine with mostly padlocks and work my way through it. Usually end with some IC best and falcon cores, then work on my medeco biaxial progression. The abus 83 locks are newest and have a bunch if different keyways.


Recently ive been making my move into the dimple world. I have a couple different abus 75IB and a mortise. Not doing well yet, but i havent really had a beginner lock lol. Bad move attempting to start with those abus locks..

Today I got a Christmas present. It's an Indian trick lock. Dunno if it counts as picking, but I did open it. I'm not showing it open because it would spoil the trick. It took me a few minutes that I enjoyed very much.

I picked 3 American 5200s in the past few days but even with all of their security pins, this one was still more difficult and frustrating.

First time picking a lever lock (three levers). The masking tape is covering up a peep-hole (the peep-hole makes the picking a lot easier). Have another lever lock, a safety-deposit lock, but has serrated levers and is beyond my abilities.

Been going through the rotation on usual locks. Just added new Medeco 52-5 to the rotation. Not picked open yet, but it's a work in progress. Been doing progressive medeco biaxial as well. I went 1, 2, then 3. Emptied and went 6, 5 , and 4. Gonna just do 3, 2, 1 from here. Hoping i get pin 1 and 6 figured out a little better this way.

Visited a local lock store for the first time - asked the guy about the locks they carry and he actually gave me the top two Abus's and the Corbin Russwin on the lower right for free, telling me that sometimes they replace locks and toss the old ones, so I should come back every few weeks and he'll likely have new ones for me to take for free. To thank him, I bought the Schlage and the Abus. The top two I picked within 10 minutes of getting home. Something tells me the bottom three are gonna be tricky...

Here is my pick today. They arrived this morning all the way from the USA. A big thank you to Silverado for sending me these lock, and giving me the opportunity to try a few American locks.

Got the Corbin Russwin both open and to control! Today I'm going to hit up the local locksmith and see if they have any blanks for this since Home Depot doesn't. Gonna try impressioning both keys for it.

that is one of the fairly common keyways. Would not expect HD to have it, but a hardware store might and a locksmith definitely would.

Locksmith had that and a few other blanks I was looking for. Managed to make an operating key and now trying to make a control one.
