SFIC REPLACEMENT AND SHACKLE PIN?

Postby SHACKLETACKLE » 20 Oct 2016 17:28

I was replacing the core in a SFIC federal lock but the core appears to bind before being completely seated. I noticed that the shackle pin is lose and will not hold the shackle locked. Could these two symptoms be related? I am reluctant to insert the core because I do not have a control key and feel lucky to open it to control again. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The first question anyone will ask is for some pictures of the lock in question

though somebody else may first make a statement that someone will ask for pictures.

Hi, Bill.

If locks have been outside for a while, they can get grungy and the core might be a tight fit. If a core doesn't go in too easily, I grab another core and try that. Sometimes the lock is a bit deformed from being beaten on at sometime while in service. Sometimes (in the case of BEST locks) the shackle retaining plug is slightly twisted out of position. But, as others in this thread have hinted, there's additional information you could provide that could make diagnosis of the issue much easier.
