I know Bill. He lives about 3 hrs from me. He makes zilch from videos. He used his own money to create his website. Its just a hobby for him. He does make good money at his job. Plus he is a veteran. I do salute him for his service to the country. I thought in the lockpicking sport there would be a lot of respect for each other. Possibly I was wrong.

Unfortunately, like in any other group, there are differences of opinion on different people. Some people make mistakes and are forgiven, some are not forgiven. Some people prefer one thing, some another. We have our politics and our cliques. We should be inclusive and tolerant. For the most part, we are. But not always. In other words, we are humans.

I don't care for videos that are obscene, incite violence, are derogatory, or faked. Nobody mentioned in this thread thus far has made any videos that I have seen that fit in those categories.

Please keep this thread about links to YT lock picking tutorials, not about politics or bashing. Thank you.

gademsky wrote:huxleypig. Can you give me your utube name? I would enjoy looking at your videos. BosBill is very entertaining and I bet he is making big money from his utube views. He isn't a working locksmith but does have solid over view of locks from his own study and also from what appears to be federal agents position involving security.

My long time locksmith and great friend seems to be very cynical towards BB and critical of BB's skills. Looks like my friend is not the only locksmith that feels that way.

The profession of lock smithing is a lifelong learning career. Put 20 locksmiths with 30 years experience each into a room and each would know something the others didn't. That room would make a great basis for a knowledge based artificial intelligence system that could challenge security systems. Sort of like the IBM Watson computer that can beat anyone at chess.

So BB has narrow band of experience, but makes good media and I would like to see the 1099 he gets every year from google.

Anyone here up for putting together an A.I. system? Some sort of knowledge based expert system. Its coming....then put that as the brain of a simple, cheap robot and you guys might be out of work!! ha

To get my Youtube name, put "69" on the end of it, as in "huxleypig69". Unfortunately, "huxleypig" had been taken up (maybe by me once upon a time)!

Regarding respect, I am not sure what relevance being a veteran has to the price of fish, that earns you zero in my book (unless this was a veteran's forum). That is political garbage (in my opinion). You have to earn respect. Bill has not done so for me. He also thinks that the whole locksport World revolves around him (in my opinion). If you are going to make out you are super-awesome and knowledgeable then don't be surprised when you get called out of the nonsense.

Because ultimately, what has he ever done? Apart from make videos? What is his contribution?

Thank you for the kind words Jim, I do try. All the best stuff never even makes it up onto Youtube though, sadly.

Couldn't give a hoot less what others say and if he's a "professional" or not, I find Bill's videos entertaining. I don't necessarily buy his reviews, but he's my favorite YT picker, unlike the guys who pop up, say two words, pick a lock and drop it like they're dropping a mic. Wow. Big whoop.

Bill talks you through his picks, usually guts when he can and he seems like a really nice dude. And the fact that he's just seems like a down to earth, regular dude and not a snob helped inspire me to start a year ago. Does he get his facts mixed up? I don't know. Maybe.

Try

For some cool lock picking and lock defeating videos. Also try some of the other buttons near the top of page.

There must be more links than those listed in this thread so far.

I learned from Kokomo and Wiz. He's fine, I am friends with him on FB. Definitely miss his videos.

I like bosnian bills steady, unflappable approach. I like his steady stream of reviews, and good filming. Most of the guys joining lock picking forums in the last few years cut their teeth on his you tube channel.

Sure we may all approach problem solving, and picking in differant ways. But im sure we have all found somthing usefull in his videos. whether on picking, tool reviews, or just his shout out to other pickers with locks sent to him, and his honest appraisal, win, lose or draw.

More power to your elbow Bill.

Oh nice - good to hear he's ok! I watched his vids before I even knew about Bill, before I was really even into picking. Just thought Wiz made it look cool. Schuyler Towne was another that had videos and stuff and then seemed to have vanished.

I'm a big fan of Bosnian Bill on youtube. He taught me about all I know about locks and lockpicking. Making tools, how a lock is put together, how to make a key for a lock, what kinds of locks there are, how they're picked, SPP, raking, bumping, wafers, pins, all kinds of security features, and he seems to think that Master Lock Co has a lot to learn, so add entertainment too. The best one might have to be the one on how spools are picked and showing the counter rotation with the weight on the tension wrench. I have seen one or two (one?) vids where he just gives up on a lock. Can't be picked. I also saw one where he did open about 14 locks in 10 minutes, so he might come off as a showoff in some of them. It's all good. He has taken a lot of locks apart, but I don't know if I have seen him put any together?

I also have started watching the lock picking lawyer, very interesting and informative as well. Lots to see there too.

I don't get that vibe from Bosnianbill at all. I have seen the majority of his videos, and he very often refers to pickers who are more experienced than him and he always gives credit where credit is due. It's quite common for him to refer to certain locks as being beyond his skill level, and he also makes plenty of "whipped" videos where he can't open the lock in question. When he learns something new he always gives credit to those who helped him along the way. I'm just not seeing any appreciable arrogance here--unless you're talking about Master, and IMHO even a newbie picker has a right to be arrogant there.

Because ultimately, what has he ever done? Apart from make videos? What is his contribution?

Simply the act of making videos is a great thing. I'm sure he's gotten many people into the hobby. I know for a fact that Lockpicking lawyer mentioned in one of his videos that it was BosnianBill who inspired him to get into picking. It was certainly him who got me back into picking after a 15+ year hiatus. And he also posts a lot of information which is helpful for newbies: info on practice locks, tool reviews, and so on. Yes, I know a lot of that information is available elsehwere but I think that BB does a great job of making it accessible to all. I have come across a few lockpicking forums that were, shall we say, less than polite to new members. It was almost like an "old boy's club"--if you weren't already a longtime member then you'd get ignored (or face hostility). That's not very welcoming to new pickers. None of that BS on Bill's channel or site. And beyond getting new people interested in the hobby you can learn an awful lot about how locks work, or what strategies may be effective against which locks by watching his videos too. I find them very informative.

Now I do agree that he's not perfect. One of my biggest gripes is that a lot of his pick reviews don't contain any information regarding those tools actually being used and are more of a "first glance" rather than anything else. But nothing and nobody is perfect, and I think the bad is far outweighed by the good.

I'm also a big fan of BB. I never got the vibe he is a show off or know it all. I am a noobs noob so I do learn a lot from him. But as with anything else, there are different levels of experience. I can see people that are just starting out learning more on YouTube than those that are locksmiths with 40 years experience. Having very little experience myself I can watch anyone one YouTube and be blissfully ignorant to their mistakes.

Bosnianbill's vids are fun to watch. He's the 1st YouTuber that had a description of feedback that gave me enough understanding to open my 1st lock. I don't think I'll ever forget that.
