schlage accent single cylinder...please help

Postby wildwood707 » 3 Feb 2017 10:12

I recently got this schlage lever handle from a lovksmith and I cannot pick it for the life of me.... It is worn out but I don't think that is the problem...no matter the tension I use I can't get a click out of it to know if the pin is set or not...

Hi,
Is this your first Schlage? what other locks have you conquered, how long have you been picking, what picks are you using, etc, etc, etc. need more info before we can help you properly.

Did this one come with a key? does the key work smoothly? Have you tried picking it in both directions? Sometimes I find Schlage F series KIK cylinders to open easily one way but not at all the other direction. They also have a lot of slop with the cylinder floating inside the knob or lever handle.

Here is the picks I'm using. All homemade hooks . I have been picking for about a year now... I have picked a few other schlages a mortise and a couple out of a dead bolt...I've made my own security pins and can pic a five pinned sclage with I standard and all spools or two spools two serrated and a standard pretty well...I repin my locks for practice but like said before cannot pick this accent [image] https://imgur.com/gallery/kNEpr[/image]

These schlage locks can be difficult to impossible for me to pick. Yesterday I had two of these to rekey along with two schlage deadbolts and the client had no keys.
I couldn't pick either lever open and finally I shimmed open the deadbolts and wound up making a key to each deadbolt, those keys fit the levers. Otherwise I usually
wind up destroying the schlage lever cylinder and just replacing them.

You may have better luck if your hooks were more hooked, they dont seem to have much hook at the tip, and Schlage pinning can be pretty hi-lo-hi compared to something else like a Master No 3 padlock. The pick may simply be touching/moving too many pins at once while it is in the lock. Search for lock pick templates, download them and set the scale on your computer monitor so it is 1:1 and put your hook pick up against the monitor to compare the tip at the end. This will show you how much it needs to be hooked.

A tip for posting photos.. you seem to have uploaded them into the "share with entire Imgur community Gallery" where people rate each others cat pictures and make snarky comments" I think I need to make a video or something, my written instructions dont seem to be working and imgur changed their layout since I wrote them.

When you go to imgur and click the button at the top for New Post and browse your computer to upload a file, once it uploads and goes to the page where it displays your photo, right-click your photo and click Show Image then when the browser screen is just showing your photo and not all the other imgur options to the right of it, the browsers address bar at the top will have the link you need to copy and paste here between the [image] tags. That link will end in .png or .jpg usually and will look like this: http://i.imgur.com/randomjunk.png

Hope this helps.

Does the plug have a little plus symbol on it? It may be Schlages (now discontinued) resettable cylinder
