Plug Spinner

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Plug Spinner

Postby Oak » 18 Nov 2004 16:14

Is it possible to build a homemade plug spinner?
Can i with a plug spinner when picking a dead bolt spin the lock in the opening direction in order not to have to pick it again?

Thanks in advance. :)

1.) Yes, it's somewhere on the site. If you can't find it, it's available in zeke79's ftp site.
2.) Yes, that's what it's made for.

Yeah you can make your own like stick said, but I recommend just buying one. the Rytan RY57 plug spinner is cheap enough and works marvelously.

What problem did you run into?

I'll pay you for that spinner.

Here's a little tip on using the Rytan plug spinner...I found it extremely effective to actually "push" it into the lock while pressing the release button. If you try to hold it in the lock without touching the first pin you'll find that quite often it doesn't work like it should. Once I learned this I've found it overcomes even the grungiest of locks when spinning.

it may have just been a defect or something, but the spring on mine was really tight, and the mechanism is somewhat flimsy, it is really hard to wind.

I found that at first with mine too. But after about 10 spins the spring found a nice balance. What plug spinner did you opt for other than the RY57?

I've been thinking those children's helicopter toys might work. The cheap plastic ones that they give out at birthday partys. I'll pick one up from the dollar store later and try it out.

Do you think it is better than the A-1 Plug Spinner?

Here's kind of a funny story.
I was locked out of a room in my house. Im not sure what brand the lock was, but it came from wal-mart. A standard lock in door knob style. Anyways, I was locked out, so I picked it quick ableit the wrong way. I didn't have my plug spinner around (which i've come to love) so I turned the core until it was JUST before the locked position again. I rested the tension wrench in the keyway and flicked the very end of the handle part of the wrench with my finger and sure enough it spun to the unlocked position.

imagine that, an even cheaper plug spinner than the rubber band trick!
