It shouldn't matter which one you get as long as it has the screw peice in the back with the pin for the tail peice. You'll have to use the tail peice thats on the kik cylinder that comes with the stanley lock. I have 2 different protec 2 kik cylinders and they both will accept the stanley tail peice. Maybe someone who knows more about them can chime in & let you know if theres is a wrong one?

Here's some pics of the stanley compared to a assa twin both have the stanley tail peice on them. My protec 2 kik cylinders have the same back on them.

I think its gonna be the cy410 which can take a lazy tailpiece that deadbolts use, not the cy406 which takes horizontal or vertical tailpieces that knobs use.

best bet is to contact snobs to make sure

can you show the back of the cylinder with the tail pieces removed and/ or show the other side of the tail pieces? you have the protec2 or twin cylinders? what model of cylinders did you get? you have me kinda confused lol. are these the protec2 or schlage twin cylinders.

the thing is i have not bought the stanley padlock yet. either way i will probably get one or two to use to secure a cooler with some hardened peerless security chain in the back of my truck and possibly an atv or two on a trailer.

This is a assa twin & a stock stanley cylinder. The tail pieces are just flat on the bottom. I cannot take pics of my protec 2 cylinders cause they are in use. If i were you i would take squelchtones advice & just call snobs to be sure 1st.

Not a bad option for the atv but for the cooler its overkill. I also have some expensive coolers but the problem is that if you use a expensive lock on it they will just cut your cooler to steal it & the type of people that swipe a cooler normally dont pick locks or carry tools. Unless you have some way to lock up your entire cooler with the lock?

Guys, I'm sorry to necro an old thread, but rather than start a new thread when there's already a thread with some relevant info, I thought I'd post here.

I love Stanley padlocks, and am also wanting to upgrade the cores in them. So a couple of questions...

1. I recently purchased a zero bitted Schlage Everest Primus kik off fleabay. Anyone know where I can get it pinned and keyed?

2. I have the correct Protec2 kik picked out on Security Snobs, but would like to know if the Protec2 keyway is too wide to keep the spinner that comes standard on the Stanley.

3. Does anyone know a place to buy an ASSA Twin kik that comes pinned and keyed (and that will drop in a Stanley)?

Thanks Gents!

1) rekeying the everest primus for me was a pain. I could not find anyone to do it. My keyway was a c145 so i just got some pre cut c145 everest keys & cut the side bitting for the side bar pins by hand. I was only able to use either 3 or 4 of the side bar pins also. If you go this route make sure you put the cuts for the side bar pins exactly where they need to be cause the side bar pins have to be lifted & rotated so its easy to mess up on the 1st 1.

2) the protec 2 key fits through the anti drill disc on both the larger & smaller stanley 24/7 padlocks that i have.

3)maybe someone who knows more will chime in but i had a hard time finding my assa twin kik. I ended up finding it on ebay. Wayne Winton from tricounty locksmith also sells this padlock combo. I've never spoken with him so idk the price but those kik cylinders aren't cheap.

Very helpful, thank you very much!

Yeah, the Everest Primus I bought off of ebay came with the sidebar fingers installed, but was zero bitted in the bible and core. Mine is also a C145 keyway. I've never tried to cut a key by hand, but the blanks are cheap, so I might buy a few and have a go of it. I'm pretty sure I have enough spare pins laying around to pin up the bible and core, it's just getting the darn key cut that's a real pain.

Great news about the Protec 2 allowing you to keep the anti-drill spinner.

Yeah, I've watched a lot of Wayne's videos, and have seen where he has the stanley paddy upgraded with an ASSA Twin core for sale on his web site. I certainly can understand him wanting to make some money, but $200+ is a bit steep. I could buy a pre-keyed Protec 2 core from Security Snobs for a hundred bucks, the paddy for 27 bucks off of Amazon and call it done. 127 bucks for a darn secure padlock. I like Wayne a lot... I don't want to sound like I'm bad mouthing him at all...

I may end up going the Protec 2 route... But then again, if I can go the Everest Primus route, it's a lot less expensive. Might be kinda fun to try and cut my own C145. Either that, or a complete lesson in frustration!

I really appreciate the help, thank you!

It makes no sense to put such an expensive core into a Stanley lock when for less money than those parts you can just buy an Abloy 362.

Once again, I'm guilty of necro'ing this old thread. My apologies, but I thought it better to continue this one rather than start a new one... kinda keep all the info in one place.

I put this project on the back burner for a bit, but I'm back at it, so an update...

I have been completely unsuccessful at pinning up my Primus kik.

And a reply to the above quoted post:

Price of Abloy 362: $280

Price of Stanley 24/7 lock with Abloy Protec2 core: $127

Fortunately, Security Snobs has a store that's 300 miles away from me in Salt Lake City. I'm planning a trip up there around the Holidays, and will be taking in all of my Stanley paddies to show them. I will definitely be finding out which Protec2 core and which Bi-Lock core will drop into these locks. With any luck, maybe I'll even convince them to add an "Upgrade your Stanley padlock" web page to their site.

I've done a considerable amount of research, and it still appears that even now, a Stanley padlock with an upgraded high security core is darn good security per buck spent. I've also heard a rumor (I have yet to verify it) that the Stanley 24/7 series of padlocks has been discontinued. If you've been thinking about getting one/some, now might be the time.

Even stock, they are darn fun locks to pick. The stock core comes counter milled. It also includes one anti-bump pin backed up by a stronger spring than what is used for the other pins.

I've been using pins from the Sparrows practice kik re-pin kits with the stock Stanley cores, and have been able to make some darn hard-to-pick locks from them. Adding serrated key pins, one serrated driver, and five serrated spools to the counter milled core makes for hours of picking fun. I thought I was pretty darn good at picking serrated driver pins, key pins, and serrated spools after becoming proficient at picking American 1100 locks. But taking a stock Stanley core that's counter milled and pinning it up like it's an American 1100 brought me to my knees very quickly.

Upgraded to high security or not, Stanley 24/7 padlocks are a blast. It'll be a shame to see them go if they truly have been discontinued.

Guys, I am also in the process of slapping a different core in my Stanley. I bought a Medeco core which fits great but tail piece is a no go. I was looking online at adopters and driver that Convert, does anyone know anything about these? Links to show you what I am talking about:
