One handed picking?

Thought this looked intersting. As far as I can see, the tool is weighted and you adjust the tension by moving the weight further from the top - The further from the centre, the more pressure/torque is applied. Maybe?

Now when anyone asks if it's possible to pick with one hand, you can't say no.

I think it would still be easier to pick with two hands =), But seeing this tool has given me food for thought for future tools *scuttles off to go-a-ponderin*

That tool looks pretty cool. Any idea how much it would cost to buy it?
I kinda like using both hands though, im just so used to it that way.
I can't recall if i've seen it on this board, but i've seen something about a homemade hands free tensioner before. Someone uses a normal L shaped tension wrench, and drills a small hole on near the end and hangs some kind of weighted bead on it.

There are other "hands free" tension tools on the market, including ones with holes and weights. I made one using a film canister and some pebbles/sand. I don't like this style at all, because without tension tool feedback, I feel as though I am missing far too much from the lock. I am not sure how these tools would fare with a snapgun or a pickgun, either manual or electric, but I think that these could be useful for some people, but useless for the rest of us. Only one way to know.

a simple and cheap method to make on is to pick up a depth stop for a drill bit,
they're cheap... make a longer tension wrench and get a longer set screw

years ago, I invented a method of one handed picking that was specific to a quarter inch metal door, that had a round hole in it, through which you could put one arm, and a large sliderbolt on the inside held locked with a master padlock. the padlock flopped about as usual, and the trick was to hold the pick without dropping it inside, and since only one arm could go in and reach this, I solved the flopping of the padlock by getting some baling twine around it and holding it keyhole up by pulling on the twine with my left hand. to prevent dropping the pick, I made a fingerring handle on a sweeperbristle pick, and the tension wrench was the usual single blade tensor, with a little loop on the end, a rubberband through this loop to the little finger of my picking hand and I could hold the lock steady not drop my pick and get variable tension through the rubber band. Don't ask where this application was, it was a long time ago, and some things I don't talk about.
