What about cases?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Interesting picks. I'm not even sure what all the wires are for. :-)

I use a similar pen case for one of my sets:

And this one for an even smaller kit:

A kubotan, made from a floor lamp I saw in the bulk garbage. The lamp's foot was a stainless steel tube of 2 parts, already with threads.

Overall length is 133mm, weight is 64g (empty).

I cheated for the picture because the picks shown have a length of 120mm while the kubotan can only hold 110mm picks due to the stainless steel rods I fitted into the ends. I could have made it longer, but this is the length I wanted. Modifying the picks or making new ones isn't a problem though.
The grooves are not so much for grip but to conceal that it can be unscrewed. :D

Nice! Seems like a good idea to look into. Especially like the reason you gave for the grooves. :D

Thanks. Here's a better picture. The smartphone I used yesterday messed up the colors somehow.

After looking around at all the cases from the various pick manufacturers & trying a few of them. I noticed that while they were good for carring & storeing picks, none of them made it easy to access the picks with one hand while i was picking a lock & holding a tension wrench with my other hand. Also since im not a locksmith & i only pick locks for fun im always home whenever im picking a lock. So i thought a stand of some sort would be better for me than the cases that i have been fumbling around with. Being lazy i wanted to just buy one but after looking around for a few days i couldn't find anything i liked. So i took some pieces of fire wood out of the burn pile, gave them a little touch up with a bandsaw & belt sander. Then took them to the drill press & heres my new maple pick stands. I wish i had a few blocks of aluminum laying around for this project but the maple isnt to bad either.

G-lock, that turned out really nice looking! Bembel, that portable pick case is inconspicuous and clever. Awesome stuff guys!

To pick up where I left off all those years ago, I found a leatherworker on Etsy who modified a pen roll he makes to accommodate my picks. I'm hankering for a Peterson case, when the exchange rate improves....

I've been giving this quite a bit of thought. I'm currently using a Sparrows case but it's completely crammed with the various picks I own. The other thing I don't like about it is how it's "fold open" design means that some of your picks are always sitting behind the flaps in the case (which tend to "spring shut). I'll be partway through a pick and realize I need a different tool. Now I'm trying to maintain tension with one hand hoping I don't drop any pins while trying to find the pick I want with the other hand. I will be switching to something that leaves all the picks readily accessible: either a large roll, or some kind of block with holes in the top like G-lock posted.

The roll is better for travel, the block takes up less real estate on your desk when you're using it.

I use the Peterson book case. The only draw back is that some of the pockets are a little too tight for multiple picks, but, I'm pretty sure I can stretch them out a bit. Then it'll be just right.

First page. The reason I have so many pry bars is that I plan on heating them up and bending them for picking locks in my hand while I'm on the couch. I just haven't got around to bending them yet.
