Have you measured your pins and keys?

The key was a brand new factory key and I know that all my pins are good. Possibly the factory key was missing cut? Just didn't know if this was something other people had problems with as well. But another problem was I duplicated the baldwin key on to some schlage keys and they didn't work, had to run out and grab baldwin blanks then it worked fine. I did measure the baldwin key and the schlage duplicates and they were slightly off. I don't know...it was a pain in the ass to do something simple.

Are you sure the keyway is a "C" keyway?

If your pins are right in spec, then there's pretty much only two other possibilities for the issue. Those would be miscut keys or a non standard plug size. I would follow what Gordon said and measure out your keys to see that they are cut to the right depths and spacing. If they keys check out, then check your pin lengths and the plug diameter as well.

Depth and space information is here: http://www.lsamichigan.org/Tech/SCHLAGE_KeySpecs.pdf

The Schlage plug diameter is 0.500" to my knowledge.

Best of luck sorting out the problem!

That is normal for Baldwin cylinders.

Do you mean for the Baldwins that use Kwikset Titan keys? I've never heard of a Baldwin with offset shoulders that uses Schlage specs, but they definitely could be out there. Anyway, I've seen many Baldwin keys that use the offset Kwikset style blanks so that they can be utilized with 6 pin Titan/UltraMax cylinders.

I double checked on some of my locks and was thinking in reverse. When you use Baldwin keys in certain Schlage locks (such as D series knobs, that have the recessed face along with other brands using a recessed face) you have to nick the bottom shoulder back on the Baldwin keys because it won't allow it key to go in all the way and it will rub/drag on the material of the recesss as you turn the key. Remedy is nicking back the bottom shoulder at a angle clears it up.
However, I almost always rekey Baldwin with at least one step lower anyway, always seems to work better.
My mistake. Cheers!

Yep, the Baldwin Smart key (besides making me a little nauseous) often do have the offset.
horrible locks, and they seem even more persnickety than regular KW SK

Do you happen to know off hand if the Baldwin SK has the same (or a similar) exploit as widely publicized one with the KW SK?
