Double peak vs triple peak?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Double peak vs triple peak?

Postby Goblue57 » 5 Apr 2017 1:57

I recently received a new sparrows kit and i was wondering what role does the double peak fill that is not already filled by the triple peak? I guess I just don't really see many uses for it other than being a back up to the triple. I'd appreciate your guys opinion on this particular rake, thanks!

4 pin padlocks. I have also had luck with a high set pin in the back behind a low setting pin. Seems to not hit the ones in front as bad when a triple may hit pins that you dont want to. Just my observation.

I agree with jimu57; 4 pin padlocks seem to be the best application of double peak picks in my adventures.

I partially agree with the other 2 replies,

I'd also believe that variations of pin stacks with security pins, showing better results for one over the other. But, only determined by the highs & lows of the bitting.

Personally... i prefer the double. I jist have better luck with it. In 5/6 pin locks you get similar motion of the pins so why do you need the triple peak? just personal experience though.

I've had decent luck with both on 5-6 pin locks too. I just feel like the triple peak touching more pins at once gets the job done faster. I could be imagining that and would have to actually time myself to find out for sure though.

Double all the way for me, although I'm swaying more to the snake rake these days, just enough to identify any spools and push them up in lower security locks.
