PLease help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night I accidently locked my file cabinet by pushing this lock in that was sticking out. Now I can't get the file cabinet open.

It's a grey four drawer cabinet named "Envoy METALSTAND PHILA." The lock thing is on the upper right hand corner and I need to get the thing open.

Well, judging by the number of exclamation points you put, im guessing you need it open rather quickly

The quickest way would be the trusty ole' crowbar. A hammer would also do the trick. Or.. both

If time isn't much of a concern to you, then you could learn to pick it. It's only a wafer lock so it won't be hard, or very time consuming. If you dont' wish to buy lockpicks, you can use simple paperclips or pins, and some kind of improvised tension wrench.

Both are very helpful, but if your going to learn only wafer picking, then you should read Steve's guide, it talks more about wafers.

I've tried using a paper clip but havent had much luck. How would I insert the paper clip or what would be the propper way of putting it in and then turning it with the wrench?

Could I just try breaking the lock off to open it?

Be careful suggesting that a filing cabinet lock is wafer....most of the ones I come across are actually pin.

Trying to break the lock off is a bad idea since it's most likely held in place by a pretty sturdy screw. If you're not in a rush, these are good locks to practice picking on. Direction to pick is clockwise, btw.

Someone else just tried the paper clip and piece broke off inside so now it is <all of the horrible words in the world spoken in each entire language in the whole wide world> stuck. So now, logically the only way is to just destroy the thing.

i think he means a large drillbit and as for where to drill, i have no idea havnt dealt with desk locks much, soorry i couldnt help more

Sorry, should've specified a bit better. Right in the middle of the keyway, and ummm...let's see...7/16" drill bit should do it.


Don't drill any further than 2 inches though.

But yeah, go right ahead and drill it out. I just couldn't believe that a bunch of lockpicking experts were as quick as to suggest it...

If you're on a lockpicking forum and your logic tells you the only way to open a lock is to drill it, it's going to be tough to adjust that type of thinking.

Ok, sry. I know that some can be pin, but i was only thinking wafer because the filing cabinets in my house are all wafers, and also all the teachers filing cabinets in my school are wafer. (don't worry im not picking the school locks, its just that i like to observe almost every lock i come across)

Also, Varjeal you said he should drill in the middle of the keyway, would that work for wafers? Im not being sarcastic or anything, i just didn't think that would work, I thought it would simply drill a little hole through the wafers
