Concealed Vertical Rod panic latch

A place for professionals to trade tips about installing and servicing door closers, hinges, panic bars, and exit devices.

Concealed Vertical Rod panic latch

Postby Chris23 » 8 Jun 2017 21:16

Installing a PDQ 6200CVF panic bar with a PDQ 6S MIA 626 handle on the opposite side. Turning and releasing the handle pulls and releases the latches correctly. Pushing and releasing the panic bar also pulls and releases the latches correctly. However, when the door closes the top and bottom latches won't press down to catch the strikes to allow the door to close. The latches should move freely but I can't figure out what is wrong.

Are you sure you have the lengths set correctly?

It comes with a tool to help set the rod lengths. So, pretty sure the rods are at the manufacturers recommended lengths. The latches move freely until we reach the step of attaching the rods to the panic assembly.

is there a little button or plunger at the top of the door that when pressed against the door frame, lets the rods shoot up and down, thus locking that door?

Fig 1 and Fig 3, part 41 perhaps that part is not installed or needs to be backed out more?

Measure your CL, make sure it is at 40". Remove bottom rod from center case. Adjust top rod so it is held retracted when bar or trim activates the bar. Adjust until it is held retracted. Let the door close and make sure it triggers the latch and the top rod latches. Open the door, hold open and trigger the top latch, install bottom rod with bottom latch extended, adjust rod to fit in center case. At this point both latches should be extended in locked position. With door still open push on bar and make sure latches are held retracted, let door close and see if it latches top and bottom. Repeat with outside trim, once this is done you have adjusted the bar.

Standard is set for a 7 0 door.
