Thanks a lot. That makes perfect sense, really. I couldn't imagine that Keso would allow another lock company to use the same brand name unless there was some kind of licensing or other sort of legal partnership involved. Otherwise it would seem like a lightning rod for lawsuits!

Though I suppose there might still be differences in quality depending on where exactly the locks were made?

I tried to find the other KESO locks after you commented and was led to the Assa Abloy site where under KESO Mechanics they had three current offerings of KESO locks all patented until 2023. These include KESO 2500FP, KESO 4000S and KESO 3000FP. There are other older models as well. All of these as you mentioned already are very different from the Sargent Keso.

So it seems that the Sargent Keso is the same original design from the 1960's whereas KESO proper has moved on from that and manufactures newer designs?

I think that's the case. I'm guessing after Assa acquired them in 2001 they started making different designs. Since your post I was able to find a KESO 2000S padlock to pick at but it probably wont arrive for a couple weeks.

Off topic: BTW, I have a query in the "Lock Picks" forum just now under the heading "Legal to own lockpicks in Australia? Need accurate answer". You'll see what it's about. The laws are changing fast in Australia, like elsewhere, it's impossible to keep track of our dwindling civil rights. Hence the question.
