Seeking Disassembly info for Unican Tubular Padlock

Postby GWiens2001 » 14 Jul 2017 22:17

Title says it all. Have a Unican tubular key padlock. It has a sticking pin (likely a broken driver spring), and no key. Was able (once) to pick it open, and want to take it apart so I can service the spring and make a key.

Looks like there is a bearing at the alignment tab if you look into the keyway:

Looking in the shackle toe hole, can see what looks like a folded piece of metal in the hole at the bottom, and am wondering if that is how the lock is disassembled for service.

Hoping one of the more experienced locksmiths here (or anyone else) can give me any tips on disassembly.

Thanks!

Gordon

Figuring that that part needs to be pulled out somehow. Probably will drill a small hole, then use a broken screw extractor to do so. Then there is a metal shell that will need to be removed before a pin can be slid away from the plug. Then the plug can be removed and repaired. The retention system seems to be the same as another Unican tubular padlock that I found some info on online.

Thanks for the question, it was a good one.

Try to avoid drilling or damaging if not too late, It is difficult researching this Company, they sold to Kaba, Someone has to have info on it.
Maybe try 2 wiper blades, one down each side, then lift up?
Try Picking lock so it is turned to open, then try to push, pull or scream. I mean turn.

Have not done anything with this lock yet, as am hoping for more info since am hoping for more info. I try all non-destructive methods before actually doing something that can not be changed. Appreciate your trying to find info, Stratmando. Already have the lock picked open. :D

I do, but the pins are no longer in the picked position as I got lucky with a manual pick once. There is at least one pin stack with a broken pin spring, so hard to pick. Want to disassemble so I can replace those spring(s)

In some tubular locks the chamber at 6 o'clock is missing in the cylinder. There's the chamber and one pin in the plug. If this is the case, it can give you weird feedback.

If you want to pick it open, lift it in the air and pick it from the bottom. Gravity will act as a small spring where the spring is broken.

I'm Capitan obvious LOL

Good luck :)

Have got the padlock open, disassembled, keyed and reassembled. The thread on how it is done can be found here
