SFIC with a Schlage C keyway?

SFIC with a Schlage C keyway?

Postby unjust » 22 Aug 2017 13:28

So I'm a little stumped. I need a SFIC core (best compatible) that'll take a Schlage C key. I could swear that I've seen this, but am not finding it. Am I remembering wrong?

(background - GC want's temporary hardware to be SC1 keyway, final hardware needs to match future tenant sfic compatible (Best keyway) hardware.)

Won't happen. SFIC is not available in Schlage C section (SC1)

Page 6 of this seems to indicate I should be asking for a SFIC core suffix BC.... no?

The BC keyway (I think Schlage actually designates it CB) is a SFIC core, made by Schlage, in the Best C keyway. Gordon's right, the Schlage pinning system uses increments that are too large to allow it to work in an SFIC format. The SFIC stuff that Schlage makes either use the Best keyways or its own special keyways (think the Everest B series) that conform to the Best pinning specs.

so, a CB core is a schlage manufactured Best C SFIC core? That's entirely not useful.

So.... does schlage make FSIC cores with both SC1 and Best C? realisitically that'll get both users the keyways they want, IF i can find FSIC lever handles the tenant likes.

FSIC is available in C keyway. SFIC is not. SFIC keyways from Schlage aren't compatible with the FSIC keyways.

What exactly are you trying to do?

long story short, tenant expansion. Tenant uses Best IC currently throughtout the store and intends to continue to do so. while the landlord is preping the expanded space for the tenant, landlord GC really wants to use the building standard SC1 keyway - note that these are functionally construction cores, but do need to be secure, not plastic knobs.

when the tenant takes possession of the expanded space, and needs to operate the relocated detex alarm they want to do so with their operational keys.

until tenant takes over, it's fine that exterior and construction area cores are SC1, but they'll need to be Best eventually. worst case, landlord pays 2x to have the lease delivery requirement hardware to be installed by tenant GC when they take over, best case, we just swap one construction core for another which they'd do anyway.

problem: tenant uses a Best 7KC lever set as a stock leverset... i suppose the one place that occurs is internal and could get a plastic construction core switch.

So you will have to use hardware which uses mortise cylinders or rim cylinders (the detex lock) to accomodate the landlord GC's desire to have Schlage keys. When the landlord GC is ready to turn over the space, you would then install the mortise or rim SFIC housings in the locksets. In the case of the Best 7KC lever set you would have to temporarily use a Schlage lever set and swap it out when the tenant takes possession.

yeah, that's what i'm thinking. the lever set is fortunately not a security issue, so it can even be the best set and just get the schlage sfic plastic construciton thumb turn.

i could *swear* that i've seen a SC1 SFIC core. maybe it was a SC1 LFIC? does anyone make a Best LFIC?

Schlage has the SC1 FSIC. That is probably what you are thinking about. Stands for Full Size Interchangeable Core. FSIC is Schlage's name for their version of LFIC. To the best of my knowledge, nobody makes a Best LFIC.
