American key supply authorization?

Postby Moses057 » 1 Sep 2017 2:47

How do I get the info to answer the authorization questions for American Key Supply?
I'm trying to teach my self impressioning and they have the best price on the key blanks I need. I bought some from CLK supply, but, I'm running out fast.

WHAT ARE THE CUTS for a 2000 Honda Accord with a key code of "8405"?

What was the craziest locksmith customer experience you have ever had?

If this is sensitive info can someone pm me?
If I can't get the answers, can someone please point me in the right direction so I can learn what I need?

Um no. Those questions are there so only legit locksmiths can get in, we wont be posting those answers here in the public forum, and you can learn impressioning here, on youtube, reddit, at keypicking forum or at home without the need to sign up to a locksmith restricted site. And there are plenty of places for blanks, without creating a bogus locksmith business account to get them. Check out Locksmith Supplies sub forum on your left in the blue/white menu

Could you point me in the right direction so I can learn what I need to answer those questions? I'm really interested in becoming a locksmith. I had back surgery in May and was thinking I could teach myself enough to get a job as an apprentice after my recovery period ends in May 2018. Right now I stuck at home and not even allowed to drive. Hopefully that will change in a couple weeks when I see my surgeon.

There is no place I can point you, a locksmith would have the HPC software to type in that challenge question and out would come the key cuts for that indirect code. Thats how they prove youre a legit locksmith, if you have the software.

Sorry thats not more helpful

EBay must bring up some cheap key packs for you but if you have to use that firm try ringing them up and explaining your situation. They are only key blanks so may help you by setting an account up that allows you to buy non restricted items.

When I first started all the suppliers needed proof of trading which included suppliers invoices which I obviously could not get without an account.
I did what I've suggested and rang them, 3 suppliers I tried all set me up on a trade account and I still use those accounts to this day.

Unfortunately trade suppliers are there for a middle man to sell items on at a profit to an end user and at the moment you are just an end user.

If your aim is to become an apprentice lockie I would go and see if that's viable to begin with, go ask your local lockies if they would do such a thing and if so maybe would they help you get prepared by selling you some bits at cost. If they want someone in the future and can have a hand in moulding you from day one they may be willing to invest some time in you.
I would find someone you want to work with and tell them so, asking someone for help then telling them you're wanting to work for someone else wouldn't help your case obviously.

An idea to get more mileage from your blanks could be to pin a lock with high cuts and one with low cuts, you impression the high cut one then file the key flat again. It limits your combinations but could give you practice looking for marks.

Is your back injury going to allow you to drive around all day, bend up and down to remove locks on doors all day, lift & stretch to install door closers or push bars on doors, drill on metal doors, etc etc

I just want to point out, there are about 153 thousand other things that locksmiths do besides sitting at a desk impressioning or picking $12 padlocks.

I had a back injury (broke it, yay!) a long time ago and it took several years to finally come to the point of being able to do some of those things I mentioned. Please don't assume learning to pick locks or impression sets you off on a immediate path to being a locksmith.

Hope you recover anyway

also as mentioned above, for small quantities eBay or one of these online sites that will sell to anybody is your best bet. Lock Suppliers want "I need a box of 50 of this, 250 of that, etc" not I need a bag of 10 M1 blanks and some of those cool picks that you'll sell to me now cause I faked myself as a business

Shrub & tjohn. Thanks for you advice.
As far as my back is concerned, I'm not allowed to bend lift or twist (BLT) till May 2018. I had a spinal fusion of my L5-S1 and in a couple weeks I'm going to get X-rays so my surgeon can check on the bone growth. If everything checks out I should be able to drive and leave my house. Right now I'm allowed to sit up all I want, but, I'm only allowed to walk 2 blocks maximum a day.

Boxes of 50 & 250 are the amounts I'm interested in. Right now my only income comes from social security disability, so, every penny I can save I can spend elsewhere on other things like tools or more locks to practice on.

If I'm honest and knowing how it affects my bad back I'm not sure you will have the movement to healthily achieve impressioning but I hope you prove me wrong and wish you a speedy recovery.

How does a bad back hinder impressioning?

It might just be me but it sort of twists/jars mine and it hurts terrible after an afternoon practising. I hope you don't get the same issues.
I did consider that you could be practising on car locks for example which are quite easy and a lot less torque/movement required of the key.
