Newbie with a Schlage B660 and Everest question...

I purchased a B660 deadbolt (Supposed to be a 1 million usage / top grade), and I wanted to fit an Everest core that I had in my collection.

The hardware on the B660 seems nice, with the outside deadbolt housing being made of solid, machined brass.

The problem that I am seeing with this, is that the locking pin (not sure the tech name for it) that holds the core end cap in place is drilled on the other side of the core than the other Schlages that I have. It makes the tailpiece off by 35-40 degrees. So, when I lock it, the bolt itself moves back a little bit when removing the key. With the bolt in that position, it can easily be pushed back into the door, as it is no longer in the fully locked position.

I took another tailpiece and tried bending it to the correct angle, and found that the metal is very cheap and wants to tear or break when attempting a bend. And no, I didn't do this yet on the brand new tailpiece that came with the kit. I might be daft, but not downright idiotic.

Now I am thinking I can drill another hole on the other side of the core to place that locking pin into.

Can this be done? Anyone have any tips or tricks on this?

Should I give up on this attempt?

remove the tailpiece and you can flip that around, at least i can with several of the schlage cores I have here

I have drilled an additional retainer pin hole before, I used a numbered drill bit,
in order to make the hole as close to the same exact size the retainer pin is & I
haven't had any problems

Change the bolt for the deadbolt. Schlage makes one that is horizontal and one that is at an angle.
