Chubb Australia Safe Have Combination Can't Unlock.

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

If the safe has a history of being temperamental you could try dialing by slightly shifting the numbers. Example, first dial the combination with the first number one lower. If it doesn't help, then dial the combination with the first number one higher. Do this with each number in the combination one at a time.

I am not familiar with a Chubb or how tight their wheel gates are. I once had a lock on a safe that had one wheel in the wheel pack that would center the gate almost one number off from what it was set at. When that number was dialed perfectly the fence would just barely drop in. I had to set it one number off to get the number I wanted to work each time with normal dialing that may have imperfect alignment. I assume the wheel was made slightly out of spec. It was difficult to get the key change mechanism to disengage and engage on that wheel.
You call that a safe? Let me show you a real safe...

......

Ok,

Thanks Gordon and 00247.

Just rang my son ( mechanic ) and he's bringing home his dead blow hammer and rubber mallet tonight from his work tool box.

I'll have a go at trying the dead blow dance around the dial ( without hitting it ) and also try a few numbers variation around the number combination given to me.

I think I'll have to write down the numbers to try as I think I'll end up forgetting where I'm up to and have to start again. I guess if I get it to open at least I'll have a record in front of me of what numbers actually worked.

I did try to unseize the wheels as was recommended by someone previously ( Squelchtone I think? ) by quickly turning in one direction then stop suddenly and reverse rotate. Tried that extensively ( without doing it too hard in fear of damaging them ) but didn't seem to help with the combination I have got.

I'll try a few things again that I've received from various places both here and elsewhere along with Gordon and 0027's recent advice and update here again.

Might take a few days for an update as I'm doing this in the small amount of spare time I have between working/sleeping and being a slave to the banks and government.

Thanks once again for the help/advice,

Cheers.

You can also use a piece of wood and a regular hammer, or even a rubber mallet

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.
