I was recently called to a customer to change his lock. As in the picture below
you can see there is quite a large handle-plate each side of the door, with a Euro Cylinder Lock in place. I have removed all 6 bolts that clamp the inside and outside handle plates together. I also removed the Euro cylinder retaining screw from the edge of the door, and the grub screw holding the inside handle onto the spindle.
In "normal" circumstances the Euro cylinder can easily be retracted by turning the key slightly, until the center cam faces downwards at 6 o'clock. However, I suspect the reason this cannot be slid out is because instead of being a normal cam, this particular cylinder has one of those "10-Cog" gearwheels which directly engages with the bolt assembly on the mortise.
My problem here is that the Handle plates just will no come away from the door to expose the cog wheel, and therefore I cannot remove and replace the faulty Euro Cylinder, which incidentally just spins round and round from the outside!
I have never come across one of these locks before and would be truly grateful if anyone on this forum can offer me any advice as to how to get these handle plates off the door?
