Gary floor safe missing parts?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Wow, talk about full service—you didn’t need to buy a safe on my account!! :D

Well, that makes more sense. I’m gonna go try it right now.

Thank you doesn’t seem like enough. I hope to return the favor some day.

Just pay it forward and if safecracking or lockpicking ever comes up in conversation, help us spread the good word of lp101 and of passionate hobbyists who do this with ethics and fun in mind. =)

I might keep the safe in my Jeep for better traction this winter, hah!

sweet! see you for the shot put competition at the Los Angeles Olympics!

What ended up being the issue? did you have to bend the cover pin or was just just location/placement on the cam?

Thanks and glad you got it all working. Don't forget to write the combo somewhere and test opening the safe head before you put it in the safe body!

So the issue was one of not understanding the relationship between the 2 pins. Pin 1—back plate. Pin 2—plunger pin. I incorrectly assumed that the back plate pin was supposed to go into the upper end of the plunger, with the pins sharing the same axis. This is what caused the interference and kept the pin from depressing the plunger. I never even thought about having the pins run parallel to each other, and, of course, now the purpose of the “notch” machined into the plunger is apparent. Nice, simple mechanism, but I really like the looks of the exposed bronze wheels/lever/fence in djed’s example. I’m still trying to figure out how his relocker works... Guess I’ll just have to keep buying orphan safes!
