Lock & deadbolt options for driveway gate - Magnet lock??

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

I can’t get link to open but if the Vinci is the double sided push button lock do not purchase it. While it does work, it really is quite horrid. Also any double sided push button gate lock is expensive, if you think that’s bad check out Kaba Simplex’s version

These work pretty well:

Can you provide a photo, or describe gate. I apologize if you already have.

The Liftmaster LA 400 work pretty good. I have put a Trailer Plug and socket to allow quick removal when a Hurricane approachs

Check out the 6 Pin Pollack Plug and receptacle

Here you go @stratmando and others here are some images

I blacked out some areas for the privacy of neighbors and their property or individuals in the photo.

Appreciate any advice that you may have.

I am particularly lost on how to secure the passenger/service gate (see top three photos)

You should have posted the pics sooner, unfortunately your man-gate doesn't even have a lockbox welded onto it yet.
I think to save a bunch of money you should just use the DD Tech lock latch-- You don't need to hire a welder, just drill
a few holes & fasten it in place. Your gate doesn't hafta cost a bunch of money to secure, cause it looks rather flimsy
from here anyhow--I don't think you can turn it into Fort Knox without a huge application of cash

Thank you @billdeserthills

The welder is not done yet...so regardless of the lock I get, should I get a lockbox welded on?

I believe that is part of the cost I am paying so it should not be extra for a lockbox

I am dissapointed that this is flimsy :( the installer was adamant that this is pretty thick and was aggressive is asking us if we wanted a bank vault

If we do install the lockbox, what type of locking system should we get?

Thank you
James

The Locinox actually would be perfect because you don’t need a box welded on just 4 holes drilled in edge the so there’s that. They really aren’t all that bad just a really ugly aluminum handle.

I really prefer mechanical security, like a Schlage deadbolt with gate latch
it looks like you want the electric lock though, judging from the responses

Hello,

Thank you to all of you. After receiving all of your input, I am considering whether the following setup for the pedestrian/service door makes sense:

a) Get a DD Tech lock latch so that I have some mechanism to automatically lock the door when it swings closed...the lock latch PRO SL has these features:

LokkLatch® PRO.SL
• Self-locking operation requires a key to enter & exit
• Operates & locks from both sides of the gate

b) I would like to SUPPLEMENT that with a good lock and deadbolt that I can use at night and when I am away for a few days to further secure the door, for whatever it is worth.

Manual operation is fine, I don't think I am going to go with the electric strike etc at this time.

Which lock and deadbolt do you recommend, in addition to the lock latch??

Thank you

The Schlage B-250 is standard in the industry, they can be pricey however,
my distributor carries a well-made imported copy that costs like 6% as much as the Schlage does
Your welder will weld in a gate box, I would make sure the box is 1 3/4" wide, or close to that-
the cheaper gate boxes are too thin unless extra spacers are used with the lock--As long as the welder
has to put in a gatebox, you might want to consider a box with two holes, that way it will be easier
to add an electric or larger sized lock if you decide to later on. You can mount a cheap passage
handle in the lower hole, or just put in a hole cover-

A cheery morning to all

@billdeserthills thank you for this recommendation. As I am a newbie to this and I am not sure how much my installer knows about locks, he may know a lot, but does not seem overly communicative, who knows...

Is it possible for you or someone to draw up a real basic quick back of the envelope type sketch to illustrate what the box should look like i.e with the two holes?

It will really help me and us as I can show him the diagram instead of trying to explain it.

I think this option with the second hole sounds chirpy, I just need to visualize it. I will be delighted to reciprocate your kindness in any manner.

Thank you

Is it possible for you to not use bold and oversized font as that is considered rude and shouting?

Second, how about this demonstration.

Amazing what a little self-help can accomplish.

Just google search Weld on gate box, you need only know the measurement (square size) of your gate.

We seem to get a lot of cell phone and tablet users, do folks no longer own a real computer desktop or laptop these days?

Your tablet should have a touch screen which allows easy zooming in and out with 2 fingers to zoom in and out of the forum as close or far as needed.

Also, parts and materials will vary from country to country, the terrain and gate looks like South Africa to me but could you fill out your profile or reply here where you are from? It wont make sense if I say go your local Tesco store and your country doesnt have a tesco store. Or Home Depot or Walmart.
