Catch a thief

Postby Catch007+ » 12 Jan 2018 4:48

Hi, just recently found this site. My truck was broken into last. The perp left his set of keys on my front seat. Is it possible to identify who it was with the code of Medeco W2105M AJ 1 on the key?

Does it look like that code was stamped aftermarket by a locksmith or is it engraved into the key? If it's aftermarket stamped there is very very little chance that it will lead anywhere. It it's a Medeco factory stamp I'd say it's slim but not impossible. It all depends on what records Medeco and the issuing locksmith keep as well as if it's a restricted keyway specific to a single shop. A picture of the key may help narrow it down.

a picture of both sides of the key would help. often the shop name and phone number that sold the key is stamped on the key. Divinorum, it's gonna be the locksmith keeping records, most people dont have factory direct keys.

The good news is that the key is likely important to the thief. :D

Talk with local locksmiths and find out which ones work with Medeco. The code posted sounds like it is part of a master-keyed system. The locksmith who set up the system will likely know where he/she installed it. Then it is a matter of having law enforcement speak with the place and find out who was issued the key.

Good luck.

Depends!

If it's from a dealer program AND Biaxial/M3, there will be an custom coin mark on the back of the key (other side from the Medeco part). These custom coining marks are unique and how Medeco knows who the hell is selling their blanks on eBay. :D :D :D

If you've got that, OP, contact Medeco and they can tell you the dealer. Then go to the dealer. If they don't reveal the customer's information, and they won't, then present your findings to law enforcement. They'll take it from there.
