Tabular lock issue

Postby brutman » 12 Jan 2018 23:57

I had a standard tabular lock in my front door. Recently, it start functioning differently than before and I wonder if the lock is broken or there is a different reason for it. In the past, whenever leaving the house, we would switch the internal clip and go out and shut the door which should keep it locked. Recently, Whenever we tried to "shut the door", the latch is static not allowing us to shut the door. The only way now is to use the key.

Your advice is much appreciated.

David.

David,

Am trying to be sure of what you mean. Do you mean a tubular lock? On the deadbolt? Tubular locks use round keys like these:

Or do you mean something else? Is it on the deadbolt, or are you having problems with the knobs/handles? What you are describing sounds like the knobset (knob/handle and latch).

Knobs/Handles:

Deadbolts:

Pictures would help greatly. Note: Since this is the lock on your door, do NOT post pictures of the key. That is for your own protection. ;) Pictures of the lock itself are fine.

If you do mean "tubular" instead of "tabular", let me know and I'll edit your post. Am going to correct one repeated error now, just to help. :D
